Living for the Wella Balsam shampoo mention - the scent had me in a chokehold! Also, Suddenly Susan was indeed a good show.

What I find so fascinating about Jennifer Aniston is that she has a fragrance line that no one ever hears about (I've seen it at Kohl's pre Sephora in store), along with a hair care line we rarely hear about, yet her paid promotion role for brands like Smart Water and Aveeno were everywhere. It''s almost like she wants to own brands but doesn't want to be seen promoting her own thing, but it's OK when she doesn't own it?.

Re: teen boys and fragrances: my college student was briefly entranced by Sauvage, I just got him samples (I work retail) because I wasn't having him buy a huge bottle before I knew it wasn't a passing fad for him. (it was). Now a year later, a co worker in men's fragrance suggested Acqua di Gio and that seems to be a hit. He's ready to commit! A gift set is in his future for Hannukkah.

Omg her fragrance was actually pretty good as I recall. Maybe it’s because she doesn’t spend on national marketing for her brands - just social - so it makes her more visible for the non-owned brands? It’s an interesting observation. And my teen loves cologne too but he searches out modern ones. He really likes one of the Replica scents rn

So interesting about the fragrances! Acqua di Gio is a classic. I’ve always liked it too!

Acqua di Gio! But let's all admit that the gold standard of my youth was in fact ELECTRIC YOUTH in that snazzy pink bottle.

Omg I did buy the t-shirt for like $24 in Toronto — I don’t think they knew what they had! No designer impostors for you? 😂

Omg I think Fawnia just bought a vintage Electric Youth tee

Ohhhh-so-interesting to read about the data on celebs and beauty marketing to Gen X, esp re: authenticity and having pro ‘help’ with stylists, extensions et al. Also: BLISS LEMON + SAGE BODY BUTTER!! 🍋 Neneh Cherry Buffalo Stance!! CK ONE!! All the nostalgic smells, sounds AND a cheat sheet to what’s going on now. Loved this.

I have the song in my head!!

Thank you!! I was drenched in Bliss all through the 90s I think. I thought it was the fanciest/coolest brand

Love this breakdown! What was once a white space is on its way to becoming an annoyingly marketed space, and women deserve better than “Vag of Honor.”

As a onetime Living Proof stan, I’ve been curious about LoLaVie and I’m going to try it after reading :)

Living proof is a lot more science-y , but Jen is giving good basics

So menopause always sets off bells in my head..there are way too many male ob/ gyn practitioners who only pretend to know what this does to the female body/mind/ self image and general well being of women..when there is a hole in the universe, someone always looks for a way to cash in on it..hair products reflect that..being follically challenged myself, I am no expert on any of it except to know what hair loss feels like..that vulnerability leads to someone else’s profitability..that being said, if the products makes you feel good and the price is reasonable for the individual..have at it..hard enough to go through this unfair life change..take your smiles where you can..

Thank you for this gimlet-eyed brand review. I also wince at the Stripes product names. Not as bad as Indeed Labs' Me-No-Pause line (ugh) but close.

(Related: Pattern's gel formula hydrating curly hair mask works and smells really really good.)

Me-NOOOOOOO-pause. I cannot. I have a meno beauty story in the works and am afraid I may come out of it not wanting to ever engage with the beauty industry again. And thank you for the two cents on Pattern! It does seem like a great brand

...just checked and Indeed Labs mercifully put that line out of its misery. Yoiks.
