I am so thankful you are here to help us unpack all this colonizer supremacist bullshit from our tender and formative years! These are topics I don't bring up in therapy but, my god, the trauma we carry as non-white women is deep 🤯🤦🏻‍♀️

It’s a lot of unpacking! This one was hard because it is so ingrained in my happy childhood memories. But it’s okay to say I liked it then but I view it from a more enlightened and knowledgeable place now, and say goodbye.

Oh wow, so much to think about re Band Aid - thank you so much for this – like all Gen X Brits, I remember exactly where I was when the concert was live-streamed, had the 12 inch version of the vinyl, and now thinking back to the video ... On a lighter note completely, the quilted bag phenomenon is happening here as well 😳 and 😮 about those films being made into musicals! I’ve got to admit, I was half tempted to suggest back to the future as a West End family treat, but nothing is ever going to compare to the OGs and now we just want to watch those again! 🎥🍿 And thank you so much for flagging Jolene Edgar, totally going to check out her Substack – thank you.🤩

Reckoning with problematic ‘80s art that has such strong nostalgia attached is difficult but also really necessary and part of the reason I love doing this project. (And I don’t mean to be a hater re: Vera but I just can’t support it 🤪 ) Thanks as usual for reading , Jenni!

Vera Bradley was popular when I was like 16-17 it’s not cute to me now 20 years later! I saw the Wicked bags and felt surprised.

I’m sure it will stage a comeback in 2045 also

Omg Wicked has a ridiculous number of brand deals!

I actually think Vera is a bit different from what I was thinking/we’ve got here—but still the quilted/waffle-y vibe, so I do get it!! 😄 (Almost best kept to puffers!)

You didn’t even mention Ana’s bonkers story about her childhood hanging out with Jimmy Carter and Anwar Sadat!

I don’t even know how I’d describe that story in 5 words! That was 🤯 and then her kicker from his interview later!
