Really great piece and resonates with this fellow Gen Xer. I was very sad when I heard about Steven Tyler and that I won’t get to see him live (I’m a fan, but have never been to a show). It’s hard to see our icons age out - it all feels too soon! Appreciated the vulnerability and would love to see more essays like this.

Miami Vice is one of my all time favorite series and I rewatch it once or twice a year. It's amazing to me how it has stood the test of time and...I think it's time to start my next rewatch,

Yes!! I was pleasantly surprised at how much it held up and the fashion is evergreen. Plus spotting all the big stars before they became big was so much fun, since I wouldn’t have realized the first time around. Bruce Willis and his big pants!

Cheryl, music always finds a way make us emote..happy, sad etc..I think viewing the world through the prism of chords and notes that stimulate the brain keeps us ..well, “ forever young” ..each in our own way..

Fawnia, I went to the Missy show in LA and it was UNREAL. The visuals/sets have so much depth and dynamism, and the costuming is absolutely killer. (This NYT Styles piece went live just before you sent and will make you even more excited: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/08/07/arts/music/missy-elliott-out-of-this-world-tour-career.html) Can’t wait to read about your experience!

Ooh thank you for sharing that and I cannot wait. You must have had the best time! The costumes look amazing and I love all the cinematic references too. She wasn’t kidding about it being immersive.
